Everything About Us
Metro Junction Townhall (MJT) was born out of urgency—but it thrives on hope.
In the wake of the 2024 presidential election, fear settled over our community like a storm cloud. The uncertainty, the rhetoric, the policies—it all made one thing clear: if we wanted safety, if we wanted change, we couldn’t wait for someone else to make it happen.
We had to organize.
MJT exists because the queer community in Kansas City deserves more than survival.
We deserve spaces where we are heard, where we are protected, and where our collective power fuels real change. We do this because isolation weakens us, but connection makes us unstoppable. We do this because history has shown us that when marginalized voices come together, we don’t just resist—we redefine the future.
This isn’t just about politics—it is and will always about people.
We’re here to mobilize, to uplift, to ensure that no one in our community feels alone in the fight for dignity and justice. It’s about creating a KC where queer folks can thrive without fear. And we won’t stop until that vision becomes a reality.
Educate. Advocate. Collaborate.
MJT is a grassroots initiative dedicated to building a stronger, more connected, and mobilized queer community in Kansas City.
Born out of the urgency and fear following the 2024 presidential election, MJT emerged as a knee-jerk reaction to the uncertainty our community faced. But what started as a response quickly became a movement—one rooted in resilience, collective action, and the unwavering belief that KC’s queer community deserves not just safety, but power.
We are organizers, activists, and neighbors coming together to foster solidarity, provide resources, and amplify queer voices. Through town halls, direct action, and mutual aid, we create spaces where community members can strategize, support one another, and fight for a future where we all thrive.
At MJT, we don’t just react—we build. We mobilize. We push forward. Because our community isn’t just surviving—we’re shaping the future.
Meet the founder, Nicky.
When the election results were in Nicky knew people were going to be scattered and scared of the immediate uncertainty which is why they decided a townhall was an order. That’s when they reached out to others and with combined efforts, the first townhall gave the KC LGBTQIA+ community the opportunity to gain insight on concerns and questions we were all wondering about.

Community Board of MJT
The Community Board of MJT is the guiding force behind our movement—a collective of dedicated KC leaders, organizers, and advocates who bring wisdom, strategy, and heart to everything we do. As an advisory board, they help shape our vision, offer crucial insight, and ensure that MJT stays grounded in the needs of our community.
With experience spanning activism, grassroots organizing, policy, and mutual aid, these leaders serve as both mentors and motivators, empowering MJT to grow, adapt, and mobilize effectively. Their voices don’t just guide us—they amplify the voices of the people we serve.
Together, we are building a stronger, more unified queer community in Kansas City—one that is informed, mobilized, and unstoppable.
